About the Speaker


Thom McKay, Founder at 148 Communications, LLC
Thom is a creative, collaborative strategic marketing and communications professional who has been working in the A/E/C industry for more than three decades. Thom knows how to tell compelling stories, solve problems and get the absolute best out of people. He has experience in all aspects of marketing, branding and strategic communications—from generating fresh, compelling content to leading public presentations and charettes as well as working with corporate and institutional entities in securing approval and community buy-in.

At 148, Thom has been working with C-suite professionals in the A/E/C world in helping them develop long-term strategies for growing a healthy practice. McKay has experience on both the B2B and B2C sides of the equation, working for operators, developers and retailers. He has developed a specialty in scripting unique customer journeys, building brands and strong identities for corporate, commercial and public clients all around the world. His work tends to have an underlying narrative component to it, especially when applied to complex, urban mixed-use developments that set out to foster a sense of community and build civic engagement. Thom was the director of communications and marketing for the global architecture, design and planning practice, CallisonRTKL, for more than 25 years. As steward of the CRTKL brand, he handled all aspects of communications and marketing, including digital and new media, publications and systems.
